Lucca City, Country and Wine Tour

An in depth visit to the stunning beauty of Lucca, including the charm of this walled city, the majesty of the countryside villas and the flavour of its sumptuous wines.

Lucca City, Country and Wine Shore ExcursionTour

Lucca has enchanted guests coming to Italy since the Etruscans, who then passed rule to the Romans in 180 BC, traces of which can still be seen at the amphitheatre and the historical centre which preserves the traditional rectangular grid. The walls around the old town have remained intact as the city expanded and modernized, unusual for cities in the region. As the walls lost their military importance, they became a pedestrian promenade which encircled the old town, they are still fully intact today; each of the four principal sides is lined with a different tree species and makes a perfect place to appreciate the views. The introduction city tour with our licensed guide is the perfect way to slide into the shimmering, romantic atmosphere of Lucca.

The Discover Tuscany Team will continue the Lucca City, Country and Wine Shore Excursion Tour . . .

After a stroll around Lucca and its surround walls, you will be escorted to the picturesque countryside of Lucca where you can enjoy fields of olives, lines of grapes, soft rolling hills, varying shades of green and a landscape made for memories. We have arranged a delicious lunch at one of our favourite Tuscan cantinas (Tuscan vineyards) where you we taste the specialities of the area while being guided through their vineyard production.

After a relaxing and tasty meal we will spend the last bit of your Lucca shore excursion visiting one of the classical historical villas of the Lucca nobility. The villa stands out with its multicoloured facade mad of stone grey and tuff alternating yellow pillars and arches, marble statues of white, ochre plaster at the bottom with the upper part in white. Weather permitting, you an visit both the villa and the park surrounding it. The heart of the park is the Nymphaeum of Winds, named for the statues personifying the winds, where the paths converge. There are a number of giochi d'acqua by means of which the marquis would bemuse unwary guests, chasing them into the garden from the upper terrace. Once there, they would try to shelter in the Temple of Flora, only to find themselves soaked by water pouring from the domed ceiling.
