Tuscan coastal vacation activities and tours

Literally a land boasting miles of unspoilt beaches and with an abundance of archeological treasures, thermal spas, forests, historical villages and a mountainous landscape all just a few steps away from the sea.

The legend is the islands of the archipelago come from a crown that Venus lost as she swam in the waters of the Mediterrean. Each island is different from the other, and they are truly unique in the world. The islands are perfect for holidays with their sandy beaches, little inlets and the rocky coastlines that together make up the largest marine park in Europe with around 60 thousand hectares of protected waters around the islands of Capraia, Giannutri, Gorgona, Montecristo and Pianosa, and 18 thousand hectares of protected land on the larger islands of Elba and Giglio.

It is possible to tour, hike, dive and sail the islands of Elba, Giglio, Giannutri and part of Capraia - a completely volcanic island. Capraia is visited today by scuba divers attracted by the ocean floor, crystal clear inlets, wide variety of marine life and many underwater caves. The island of Gorgona still has a prison and it is only possible to visit the island on organised and authorised trips. Pianosa also hosted a prison until recently. To complete the list, all of Montecristo is a natural reserve so protected that only 1000 visitors can set foot here each year.

This romantic and varied area is perfect for those wishing to enjoy the famous Tuscan sun, wine and good food while getting their feet wet and and a great tan. The opportunities for tours, treking, biking and wine are abundant - but so are the possibilities of enjoying Tuscany from the seaside.

Sailing along the Tuscan Coast

is a wonderful alternative to view this fascinating land. As a sea around which some of the most ancient human civilizations were arranged, it has had a major influence on the history and ways of life of these cultures. It provided a way of trade, colonization and war, and was the basis of life (via fishing and the gathering of other seafood) for numerous communities throughout the ages.

Discover Tuscany by Diving in . . .

along the coast of Tuscany you will find not only an abundance of clear sandy beaches but also several beautiful, unique snorkleing and scuba diving experiences - the islands found off the coast of Tuscany - only a short boat trip away are a great way to be introduced to the marine life of this historic and culturally rich zone.
